The innovative Beyond Classrooms Kingston (BCK) program facilitates moving elementary teachers and their students into community sites, such as museums and galleries for a full week of slowed-down, immersive inquiry-based learning. BCK provides support and training to teachers to help them plan for their week on site. This is not a field trip. Having a full week at a site allows time for students to slow down and reflect, through journal writing, conversation, and inquiry, upon their experiences in unique environments. BCK empowers children to be culturally aware, lifelong learners, and active citizens.
