Counselor. I have been a professional clinical counsellor for over 10 years. People usually come in to see me when they’re in distress or feeling stuck. I create a safe space for you to talk about what you’re going through. The goal of our work together is generally for you to start to think and feel differently so you can make whatever changes you want to make in your life.
In the first session, I listen closely to your story and concerns, help you see things from a broader perspective, and make a few suggestions on actions you can take immediately to improve your situation.
Therapy is a collaboration. Two people trying to understand and resolve one person’s issues. Clients know themselves well and speak intelligently about themselves. But they can’t always fully see or explain themselves or their behaviour. And they usually don’t recognize all the options available to them. When a client and I talk thoughtfully, compassionately, and non-judgementally about his or her life, new perspectives and possibilities emerge.
